For our review, we chose to buy the mystery candle ‘Kimono Flower’. We did purchase this candle a little while ago and it seems that they do not have this exact scent up for sale currently but this review should be a decent guide to show what these candles are generally like.

On cold sniff this candle gave off a medium amount of fragrance that was fairly pleasant. After being lit up the scent picked up slightly and overall had an average to above average throw.

The name of this fragrance was ‘Kimono Flower’ which is a spin on a few Asian influenced floral scents. I couldn’t quite pick up on all of what was in it but it was a pretty nice scent overall.

The time it took to actually reach the jewelry in this candle was much longer than many of the others I’ve owned. I would estimate that the candle had been burning for around 30 hours total before I was able to easily pull the little package inside out. For people that are impatient, this could feel like quite a long process.

The package that the jewelry is contained in is much better than a lot of other candle brands. You will find a plastic package that is completely sealed so you won’t get any wax in it and all over your jewelry unless you happen to burn a hole through it.

I found a ring inside of my mystery candle which looked to be a low valued piece, but still didn’t look too bad. Many of the other jewelry reveals I have seen for HTC have had some really jewelry in them so I would also say that their jewelry quality is above average. It is nice to see an approximate figure for how many high valued pieces of jewelry they put in their candles. You can also use a little bit of strategy when buying these candles as if you sign up for an account with them they will sometimes send an email out saying how many candles they have left for sale until another grand prize piece of jewelry could be coming!

Ignoring that, assuming maybe there'd be bits and pieces of pink and blue inside, I threw the bath bomb into the water. It began fizzing and immediately making my whole bathroom smell like warm vanilla sugar and the water turned to a pretty light brownish-reddish color with white swirls all around. While I enjoyed the scent of warm vanilla sugar and the pretty brown and white swirls, this didn't look or smell like cotton candy to me at all. A bit of a disappointment, but again... I love warm vanilla sugar, so it was alright.

Strawberry Filling for Cupcakes

I recently partnered with The Bozzuto Group, a real estate company that develops and manages fabulous homes and apartment buildings in the Mid-Atlantic, to create the perfect cupcake recipe in celebration of their 25th anniversary. The recipe was inspired by their office favorite, strawberry filling for cupcakes, to go along with their 25 for 25! Sweepstakes.

I haven’t had strawberry shortcake in years! My mom used to make it for us during the summertime for dessert. It was such a treat. I always loaded up on the whipped cream. My favorite part. I was excited that my responsibility for the recent partnership with Bozzuto was to make a treat replicating my childhood favorite dessert.

For the cupcakes, I used my go-to vanilla cupcake recipe. It’s a simple vanilla batter that does not require a mixer. Everything may be mixed by hand. They are infused with vanilla extract and vanilla bean. Just pure tasting vanilla goodness. You may leave out the fresh vanilla bean, but I strongly recommend you using it. These cupcakes are vanilla to the extreme. Soft, fluffy, and so much aromatic vanilla.

What’s strawberry shortcake without… well… strawberries? filled my vanilla cupcakes with homemade strawberry filling. If you think that the vanilla cupakes are easy, just wait until you experience the simplicity of this filling. 2 cups of diced strawberries cooked down with sugar and cornstarch. The mixture will thicken and it will be comparable to a sweet homemade strawberry jam with a few glorious chunks of real strawberry.

Simply carve out a tiny hole in the center of the cupcake with a sharp knife. The hole will be about 3/4 inch deep. I didn’t use a ruler or anything – just make sure you don’t hit the bottom of the cupcake and you’ll be all set. Top the cupcake with the piece you cut out as seen in the background of the photo above. It doesn’t have to look pretty because you’ll be topping the cupcake with whipped cream.

Why didn’t I use a piping tip and bag to fill the cupcakes? Good question. The filling has strawberry chunks in it and it’s much simpler to spoon it inside rather than pipe it inside. Spooning the filling is also not as messy. Bonus!

The topping? Well, it’s homemade strawberry filling for cupcakes whipped cream of course. Between the cupcakes, the filling, and therefore the topping , I found that the topping was the simplest . And quickest! Nothing from the shop can replicate this strawberry topping .

You will layer the strawberry whipped cream on top of the cupcakes with a knife. Then decorate with a few strawberry slices if desired. Nothing fancy. Told ya these cupcakes are easy! I love the beautiful chunks of strawberry hiding within the light pink topping . 🙂

The two on May 28, for example, used nearly identical templates, so I basically got the same email twice (in a series of no fewer than six different emails promoting and/or teasing FJ’s Memorial Day sale). While writing this post, I went through all the emails pictured in this screen grab, and while it’s hard to tell which of them were sent only to Inner Circle members and which went to everyone in FJ’s customer database, out of this list of messages, I found four that included what seemed to be extra Inner Circle benefits.

After the time I put into scripting this Fragrant Jewels review, I’m within the unusual position of being more confused by the business than i used to be once I started. But here’s the TL;DR for this War and Peace of a blog post.

Fragrant Jewels’ bath bombs and scented candles with rings are, with a few of rare exceptions, really great quality products that I enjoy using. I look forward to my shipment every month, now that we’ve sorted out a delivery issue and I’m actually getting my shipments every month.

The rings are very pretty and mostly better quality than you’d expect for something that came out of a toiletry.

The Inner Circle membership is probably a good deal it if you set it, forget it, and don’t think too much about it (and don’t ever need to change your address), although the benefits are a bit opaque and I’m not convinced you’re actually getting the “most-wanted” items.
